After one too many rides where I ended up with soggy feet I treated myself to a pair of waterproof overshoes. They are now an invaluable addition to my winter cycling outfit. They fit snuggly even round my very small feet and do exactly what they say on the tin - keep the mud, water, wind and everything else out. The Planet X overshoes are designed with a rear opening and enough fabric underneath to prevent the front piece over the toe from popping off just when you don't need it, which I've seen happen with other styles. They also have reflective strips.
Admittedly I haven't tested them on any epic rides but they should be more
than enough to keep your feet comfortable for a typical weekend outing. In
their short life mine have kept my feet warm and dry though plenty of
puddles and mudbaths. The added benefit being that your shoes stay clean!
I would recommend that anyone cycling off road over the winter should invest
in a pair - there are a few different types available and they cost around
£19.99.
