The Doethie Valley Route is a classic route with some of the finest continuous technical singletrack in Mid Wales, however, a number of readers have found that the route could do with lengthning to make it a bit more of an epic.
So two extension options have been developed to extend the route. Both extensions are mainly on road, but follow some of the most impressive valley and mountain roads in mid wales.
This extension brings the length of the route to around 23 Miles and 990m of altitude gain.
Leave Llyn Brianne car park at SN 793485 back towards the road and turn left at the T junction.
Follow the road around edge of Llyn Brianne until you reach SN 819 496. Follow the bridleway, which starts off as a narrow sheep track, but becomes wider and clearer as you proceed up the valley, keeping the stream on your right.

Follow the bridleway up the valley, to the head of the valley and down the next valley heading roughly North Easterly towards SN 845 519, where a farm / hotel is located. Turn Right at the hotel and follow the track to the road. Turn Right at the end.
At the next T junction in Abergwesyn, follow the road signposted to Tregaron (SN 855 527)
Follow this mountain road along the Irfon Valley, up the Devils Staircase (try and ride from the cattle grid at the bottom to the summit without stopping and gain 175m in altitude in one hit).

From the top, descend quickly into the Tywi Valley and turn left at SN 811 526. Follow this road as far as SN 805 537 where you should take the road signposted to Soar Y Mynydd. When you reach Soar Y Mynydd SN 784 533 rejoin the Doethie Valley route.

This extension brings the lenth of the route to around 32 miles.
Follow the Doethie Valley route as far as Soar Y Mynydd SN 784 533.
Follow the road North up the Camddwr valley until you reach a T junction with the mountain road between Tregaron and Abergwesyn SN 763 574. Turn right here, headed towards Abergwesyn and follow this road as far as Abergwesyn.
Turn right in the village and follow the valley as far as SN 849 517. Turn right up to the farm / hotel and on reaching the buildings (SN 845 519) turn left through the gate and join the bridleway headed south west. Head up the valley on this obvious Bridleway.
At SN 840 515 the bridleway splits, you should take the route which climbs the hill steeply across the field and then alongside a fence and then up as far as SN 827 513 at the forest edge. Throughout the climb you should be following the ridge.

Photo taken at SN 836 515, part way up the climb.
Once you have reached the forest, follow the bridleway or any suitable forestry roads heading downhill towards the road. On reaching the road turn right and ride up as far as SN 805 537 where you should take the road signposted to Soar Y Mynydd. When you reach Soar Y Mynydd SN 784 533 rejoin the Doethie Valley route.
